Safari

What does the word Safari make you think of?  Is it traveling in a four wheel drive vehicle following herds of elephants?  Maybe it's walking in the brush hunting for lions and zebra, hoping you find them before they find you.

In southern Africa the explorers will be doing these and more, and you will be following them through video clips, photos and email.

Exploring Ancient Cultures

Africa is thought to be the birthplace of humankind.  We will take you to see ancient rock art by the Khoisan or San people, and fabulous ruins in Zimbabwe.  Find out why people made the drawings and artwork.  Decide for yourselves who built the stone houses and enclosures at Great Zimbabwe.  What outside influences played a role in its development?

UNESCO World Heritage Sites

According to the World Heritage Convention, "cultural heritage" is a monument, group of buildings or site of historical, aesthetic, archaeological, scientific, ethnological or anthropological value. "Natural heritage" designates outstanding physical, biological, and geological features; habitats of threatened plants or animal species and areas of value on scientific or aesthetic grounds or from the point of view of conservation.

Come explore the many sites found in this region.  The fortified city of Mozambique; Robben Island - the apartheid prison of Nelson Mandela; The Fossil Hominid Sites of South Africa; Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park; uKhahlamba / Drakensberg Park; Victoria Falls/Mosi-oa-Tunya, Mana Pools National Park and the Khami Ruins and Great Zimbabwe National Monument in Zimbabwe - to mention a few.
